A significant development, the Dubai Exhibition City Expansion, has been approved with an investment of AED10 billion (USD 2.7 Billion), following a recent announcement by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. The approved master plan outlines a three-phase expansion, aimed at transforming an existing facility into the largest indoor events and exhibitions venue in the region. The expansion aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and Expo City Dubai’s vision of becoming a global hub for large-scale events.
Phase 1 of the expansion, expected to be completed by 2026, will increase the facility’s capacity to 140,000 square meters, more than doubling the current space. By 2028, Phase 2 will expand the venue further to 160,000 square meters, enhancing infrastructure, including road networks and multi-story parking facilities, to support the increased demand.
The final phase, set to be completed by 2031, will increase the total exhibition space to 180,000 square meters. It will also include commercial offices, retail spaces, and a 300+ key hotel. The design allows flexibility to host a mega event or multiple smaller events concurrently, solidifying the venue’s role in attracting international gatherings across diverse sectors.
This strategic development will double the number of events hosted annually, from 300 to over 600 by 2033, enhancing Dubai’s position as a global leader in the exhibitions and events sector. Additionally, the venue’s integration with other key developments, including the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, will further strengthen Dubai’s growing status as an economic hub and future-ready city.
