In a strategic move, Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom), the master planner of the Sultanate’s green hydrogen landscape, has entered a usufruct agreement with the SalalaH2 consortium comprising essential participants like OQ Alternative Energy, Marubeni Corporation, Dutco Overseas Limited, and Samsung C&T Corporation, paves the way for a groundbreaking green hydrogen project in Dhofar. Set to commence construction in 2026, the agreement was officially sealed on the opening day of the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman 2023 (GHSO).
As a prominent ‘Legacy Initiative,’ the SalalaH2 endeavor is crafted to produce over 4 GW of renewable energy dedicated to green hydrogen generation. This sustainable output will be further utilized for the production of green ammonia, catering to both local needs and facilitating exports to international green ammonia markets.
Estimates foresee an annual yield of 1 million tons of eco-friendly ammonia, coupled with an expected production surpassing 175,000 tons of sustainable hydrogen. This progress positions Oman on track to achieve its production targets for the year 2030.
The SalalaH2 consortium signifies a united endeavor involving organizations from Oman, Japan, the UAE, and South Korea. Together, they contribute to a worldwide initiative aimed at realizing Oman’s hydrogen goals and establishing the country as a pivotal center for low-carbon energy production.
