Chiwan Sembawang Engineering (CSE) secured a contract from McDermott International to fabricate a jacket structure for the Al Shaheen oil field.
As part of the Ruya development project, CSE will construct an offshore platform to support the field’s expansion, located approximately 80 kilometers from Doha, Qatar. The contract was awarded by Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan (QMW), a joint venture between McDermott and China State Shipping Corporation.
The Ruya project includes the installation of nine to ten remote wellhead platforms and the debottlenecking of pipeline infrastructure, with the goal of increasing Al Shaheen’s production capacity by 100,000 barrels per day (bpd), bringing total output to 550,000 bpd.
As part of Al Shaheen’s third-phase expansion, which began in 1994, the project is expected to span five years, with first oil production targeted for 2027.
Al Shaheen is one of the world’s largest hydrocarbon reserves and remains Qatar’s largest offshore oil-producing field.
