The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Shamal Holding, awarded the civil and infrastructure division of China State Construction Engineering Corporation a contract to construct direct entry and exit points for Dubai Harbour. Valued at USD 117.34 million (AED 431 million), this significant contract marks the 23rd collaboration between the RTA and China State Construction Middle East Company, further solidifying their partnership. China Construction Middle East Company officially received the winning notice for the R1155-SH0023 Dubai King Salman Street Viaduct and Al Naseem Street Project.
The development involves the construction of a two-lane bridge in each direction, spanning 1,500 meters, from Sheikh Zayed Road to Dubai Harbour. This new bridge will offer direct access, significantly improving the movement of visitors and residents. Designed to accommodate up to 6,000 vehicles per hour, the bridge will stretch from the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road (near the American University in Dubai) to Dubai Harbour Street, passing through the intersections of Al Naseem Street with Al Falak Street and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street up to Dubai Harbour.
In addition to the bridge, surface improvements will be made at four key intersections along the route. These include the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road, the intersection of Al Falak Street with Al Naseem Street, the intersection of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street with Al Naseem Street, and Dubai Harbour Street. These enhancements are expected to reduce travel time from 12 minutes to just 3 minutes, greatly facilitating traffic flow and accessibility.
This infrastructure development will have positive environmental impacts by improving traffic efficiency and reducing congestion. Shorter travel times will lead to decreased vehicle emissions, contributing to better air quality. Moreover, the enhanced road network will support sustainable urban growth, meeting the needs of Dubai’s expanding population while promoting a more efficient and eco-friendly transportation system.
