Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced the tender for the prestigious Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract aimed at further expanding the extensive Umm Shaif oilfield. This contract is expected to be one of the most significant engineering opportunities in Abu Dhabi this year.
Key contenders who have expressed initial interest include Technip Energies (France), KBR and McDermott International (United States), Wood (United Kingdom), Worley (Australia), Saipem (Italy), Tecnicas Reunidas (Spain), and NMDC Energy (Abu Dhabi). Additionally, China’s Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) and other potential candidates are also expected to vie for the FEED contract.
ADNOC is currently considering two development strategies based on preliminary engineering assessments. The first approach focuses on consolidating development on a single artificial island, while the second approach involves distributing the development across two artificial islands. The selected strategy will guide the next phase of the FEED process.
The selected contractor will be responsible for executing the FEED work for two critical long-term development phases at Umm Shaif, known as US LTDP 2.1 and 2.2. These phases are collectively valued at billions of dollars, though ADNOC has yet to make a final investment decision on the project.
The project will involve a mix of multiple artificial islands and both onshore and offshore facilities. The artificial islands will host oil separation and pumping systems, gas dehydration and compression trains, water treatment units, and other essential infrastructure. Offshore elements will include new wellhead towers, jackets, riser platforms, subsea pipelines, and related components.
Additionally, the Das Island facilities will feature four new Umm Shaif processing trains, each with a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day, focused on oil separation, dehydration, desalting, and stabilization, along with other brownfield enhancements.
