ExxonMobil, in collaboration with QatarEnergy, is undertaking exploration and drilling activities within the Cairo and Masry offshore blocks. The completion date for this project is pending customary approvals from the Egyptian government. QatarEnergy secures a 40% working interest in both blocks, with ExxonMobil holding the remaining 60% and acting as the operator.
The Cairo and Masry offshore exploration blocks, covering approximately 11,400 square kilometers, lie in water depths ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 meters. The scope of work includes seismic surveys, data interpretation, drilling operations planning, and the construction of associated facilities. This collaboration signifies a strategic partnership aimed at harnessing the vast exploration potential in the region.
The vision behind this project aligns with the strategic goals of both QatarEnergy and Egypt. QatarEnergy’s expansion in Egypt underscores its commitment to enhancing its presence in the country’s energy landscape. Furthermore, the collaboration fosters bilateral relations between Qatar and Egypt, promoting mutual economic growth and resource development. Egypt, in turn, aims to leverage its offshore resources to bolster its energy security and drive economic prosperity through sustainable exploration initiatives. This venture represents a significant step towards realizing these objectives, paving the way for long-term cooperation and strategic alignment between the involved parties.
