The bid evaluation process for the North Field Production Sustainability (NFPS) Compression Facilities – Phase 1 – Package 4 is underway, with QatarEnergy LNG currently reviewing offers for two major EPCI 4 packages. Prominent bidders include a consortium of Italy’s Saipem Spa and China’s Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC), a partnership between McDermott International and South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T). Final decisions are expected in the first quarter of the year, as QatarEnergy progresses its strategic efforts to enhance gas production sustainability.
This initiative involves the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of critical infrastructure to support Qatar’s ambitions in expanding its LNG production capacity. It features two massive offshore compression systems, collectively requiring up to 100,000 tonnes of fabrication. Each system includes a compression platform, flare platform, interconnected bridge, living quarters, and associated facilities. The compression platforms, CP8S and CP4N, are projected to weigh between 25,000 and 35,000 tonnes, highlighting the scale and complexity of the development.
As part of the broader multi-phased NFPS program, the construction of these facilities underscores Qatar’s commitment to maintaining the gas production profile of its offshore fields. With USD 50 billion allocated for North Field capacity expansion, this initiative is a cornerstone in sustaining the nation’s position as a global LNG leader. Technip Energies (TechnipFMC), serving as the FEED consultant, has played a pivotal role in shaping the design and execution strategies for these works.
By optimizing compression and processing efficiency, the NFPS Compression Facilities – Phase 1 – Package 4 aligns with global goals to reduce environmental impact. The infrastructure will enhance gas recovery while ensuring the sustainable use of resources, minimizing flaring, and reducing emissions. This contributes to a cleaner energy future while supporting Qatar’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
