A consortium led by Mitsubishi Power, in collaboration with Heavy Engineering Industries and Shipbuilding Co. (HEISCO), secured a substantial contract from Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity & Water & Renewable Energy. The contract involves the enhancement of the Az-Zour South Power Station, boasting a capacity of 2,400 megawatts (MW).
This comprehensive project encompasses the refurbishment and modernization of eight steam generator boilers, along with the replacement of control systems for boilers, steam turbines, and auxiliaries. Mitsubishi Power emphasizes that the primary objective of this endeavor is to enhance operational reliability while implementing a new Distributed Control System (DCS). Additionally, Mitsubishi Power is dedicated to deploying advanced environmental technologies to curtail nitrogen oxide (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions, aligning with Kuwait Environmental Public Authority (KEPA) objectives for emission reduction.
The contract’s significance lies in its contribution to optimizing and rehabilitating eight units at the Az-Zour South Power Station, thereby augmenting steam generation capacity, bolstering grid reliability, and accommodating Kuwait’s escalating power demands. Through the replacement and enhancement of deteriorated boiler components, coupled with upgrades to control and combustion systems, the project anticipates a substantial increase in boiler efficiency and a consequent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Furthermore, Mitsubishi Power is committed to deploying cutting-edge environmental technologies to mitigate nitrogen oxide (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions, in harmony with Kuwait Environmental Public Authority (KEPA) targets for emission reduction.
