AMEA Power made significant strides in Egypt’s clean energy sector, signing a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company for three major renewable energy initiatives. The first involves the construction of a 1,000MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant and a 600MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Benban, Aswan Governorate. Set to be Africa’s largest solar PV and BESS facility, this project is expected to power over 769,800 homes and offset more than 2.3 million tons of carbon emissions annually. It will also create approximately 2,500 jobs during peak construction, highlighting its economic and environmental impact.
Another key development is the Abydos 500MW solar PV plant, also in the Aswan region. With a 300MWh BESS component, this solar plant will contribute significantly to Egypt’s renewable energy goals by reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Scheduled for commissioning by October 2024, this facility will involve the installation of photovoltaic panels, inverters, tracking systems, and associated electrical infrastructure. The initiative underscores AMEA Power’s ongoing commitment to enhancing Egypt’s green energy transition and delivering long-term, sustainable energy solutions.
Lastly, the 500MW wind farm in Jabal Al-Zayt is slated for completion by the third quarter of 2025. Located in the Gulf of Suez, where wind speeds average 10.5 m/sec, the wind farm will harness Egypt’s vast wind resources to supply clean energy. Egypt has emerged as a strong contender in renewable energy development due to its favorable geographical conditions, with ambitions to supply 20 percent of its electricity through renewable sources. These initiatives further cement Egypt’s strategic role in AMEA Power’s growth trajectory.
