Electrical cabinets, switchgear panels or transformer panels are used by many different industries and sectors. They all have one thing in common: the loss of an electrical cabinet or switchgear is devastating to each production process and a direct threat to your business continuity. It is therefore not a surprise that more and more companies decide to protect these cabinets and panels in the best way possible: from within the object itself with a DSPA extinguishing system.
Why choose DSPA extinguishing equipment?
The DSPA aerosol generators consist of a solid aerosol-forming compound in a non-pressurized red canister, which aerosolizes finely divided solid particles – the aerosol fire extinguishing agent. DSPA aerosol was originally developed as an alternative to Halon and other conventional extinguishing agents. DSPA Aerosol is uniquely safe and effective. The active substances of the DSPA aerosol are solid micro particles that fill the compartment completely and attack the combustion process of a fire at a chemical level. As a result, the flames are instantly knocked down and the energy removed from the fire. The amount of extinguishing agent required is significantly less than that of conventional gas extinguishing agents. Additionally, DSPA aerosol offers significant installation and maintenance savings: it does not require any pressure vessels, manifolds, nozzles or pipework. Furthermore, unlike other agents, DSPA is environmentally friendly.
A DSPA fire-extinguishing system for switchgear panels or cabinets typically consists of DSPA aerosol generators and a highly sophisticated fire detection and activation system, assuring the customer is notified in the most early developing phase of the fire, thus giving the customer the chance to prevent many unnecessary damages.
DSPA offers a broad variety of solutions specifically adjusted upon the client’s demand. This could be in the simplest form by a full non-energy-dependent solution like thermal-detection cord, or a fire-prevention installation with the capabilities of extinguishment in case required.
For example, by detecting the carbon monoxide increase inside a cabinet caused by a smouldering led light, the system will alert the owner who can automatically shut off equipment, replace faulty parts and prevent a fire from occurring altogether. In the unfortunate case a fire does develop, a DSPA aerosol extinguishing generator will activate and quickly extinguish the fire.
Other advantages:
- Very easy to install
- Easily adaptable to your existing alarm system
- Non-corrosive and non-conductive
- Does not deplete oxygen levels
- Does not cause over pressure
- Easy to maintain
- Autonomous activation
So what solutions are available?
For smaller applications like switchgear, electrical cabinets, small transformer stations, DSPA offers simple, yet multi-functional stand-alone aerosol solutions for fire detection and extinguishing.
Thermocord can be used as part of a highly effective fixed extinguishing system. A Thermocord is installed to a DSPA generator and can be used for the detection of fire and the activation of the DSPA generator. By having the Thermocord installed within the enclosure, any other sources of power/detection/activation are made redundant. This makes it a very effective and cost-efficient solution, while remaining reliable.
Application
The DSPA heat responsive Thermocord is recommended for the protection of objects and narrow compartments such as engine compartments, electrical cabinets, switchgears and cable ducts. The heat-sensitive cord activates when the temperature rises to 165°C (waterproof version), or when the cord comes into contact with an open flame (regular version). It is advised to have the DSPA Thermocord extended for better coverage and connected to the DIN-rail of the cabinet, cable cases and connected using regular tie-wraps. There is optionally a protective spring available for heavy duty applications.

TPE-1B
The DSPA TPE-1B, is a standalone fire detection and activation unit developed for small applications such as electrical cabinets, switchgear rooms and more. It enables a basic autonomous and automatic fire-suppression system in combination with our aerosol fire-suppression generators.
The TPE-1B detects fire by means of a Day-Impex Glass bulb, commonly known as a sprinkler head. Glass bulb fire detection is a very reliable and economic way to detect a fire. In order to enable the activation of the fire-suppression unit, the glass bulb is connected to the specially designed, battery-operated base unit.
When the bulb bursts, at a pre-specified temperature, a microswitch is released, and the energy of the battery activates the fire-extinguishing generators.
Features
- Surfaces of max. 18m2.
- Certified bulbs in 68°C 93°C & 141°C
- 2 aerosol generators
- 10 years guaranteed battery lifetime
Nofiq FMD & FE-100
The NOFIQ FMD is a stand-alone fire-management device that combines a multi-sensor detector with the basic features of a conventional fire panel. The multi-sensor (carbon monoxide and heat) will ensure detection in the very early stage of fire (incipient), making quick and tailor-made intervention possible. The FMD unit can activate any size of DSPA generator, making it applicable for the protection of a myriad of objects, enclosures and small rooms. Especially for the FMD, DSPA developed the FE-100 generator to make a compact detection and extinguishing unit. This generator can be mounted straight on to the management device.
The Nofiq FMD was developed with the purpose to fulfil the need for a standalone, simple-to-install solution for object-based protection and to protect small-sized rooms.

Features:
- High-end detection method based on carbon monoxide and heat (Max & RoR)
- Communication to other systems using the potential free output
- 24/7 fault monitoring over the lines to the aerosol generator
- Easy to install, easy to maintain
- Detects in a very early stage: pre-alarm will give the customer the opportunity to response
- Lowers the costs for object-based protection using the best of Nofiq & DSPA
Tailor-made, complete, fully automatic and pre-engineered suppression system
For larger or highly valuable switchgear rooms, DSPA is happy to offer tailor-made solutions. Our engineers will draw together a complete system, in consultation with the end-user’s wishes and demand. This allows us to build systems that can even be fully integrated into existing networks.
