Hot new hood! FlamePro announces new particulate hood

FlamePro, a British manufacturing specialist of life-saving garments for firefighters, has developed a new particulate flash hood, which provides increased protection from cancer-causing particles whilst also being more comfortable than other hoods on the market.

The hood has been designed with the use of Nomex Nano Flex, a high-performance material which enables the hood to be more flexible than other hoods available on the market, whilst still providing unrivalled protection from carcinogens, by allowing air through but not particulates. In fact, Nomex Nano Flex results in up to a four times increase in particle barrier efficiency.

The one-size-fits-all hood amazingly blocks 96% of harmful contaminants, which only increases with laundering. A double water-resistant finish on the outer shell of the hood also allows it to dry three times faster, in turn reducing the toxic residue build-up, and the hood has also been designed to ensure low noise level so that hearing isn’t compromised by the crackling/rustling of suit membranes used in other hoods.

Studies have found that particulates are most likely to enter a firefighter’s body through the skin, and in particular, there is one major area of vulnerability – the head and neck.
