Our Foam Campus features state-of-the-art live-fire training props and specialized foam-training programmes. We have incorporated lessons learned from the foam transition journey into new training objects and enhanced existing ones. The campus emphasizes the application of new fluorine-free foam types. Here, you can test your foam using updated protocols aligned with industry guidelines. Additionally, our 9m-diameter low-lying storage tank serves also as a benchmark for foam testing and evaluation at the campus.
The objects
In the following section, we explain the capabilities of our Foam Campus.
1m²
The 1m² fire simulator is a square container with dimensions of approximately 1m by 1m, making it ideal for initial foam training. Its design allows for repeated use in quick succession, providing consistent practice opportunities. Additionally, the simulator is easy to clean, ensuring a fresh starting condition for each training session.
Running fuel
The running fuel simulator is an advanced training tool designed to replicate realistic scenarios of firefighting with running flammable liquids. This simulator utilizes flammable liquid flowing over a sloped surface, creating a continuous fire involving flammable liquid. Trainees have the opportunity to test combined foam/powder firefighting tactics under conditions that closely mimic real-world situations.
9m² [OK? 2.5m x 4m = 10m2)
The 9m² simulator is a rectangular tray measuring 2.5m by 4m and fitted with vertical plates that enable the creation of both upwind and downwind zones for indirect foam application on burning liquids. This design challenges trainees to use dynamic application techniques and allows them to experience varying heat loads when applying foam to both the short and long sides of the simulator.
80m²
The 80m² simulator is a rectangular tray 20m x 4m. The tray is equipped with plates (ramps) to perform the roll-on technique correctly, and by using vertical plates we can create both upwind and downwind areas where the foam can be applied indirectly onto the burning liquid. This forces trainees to apply dynamic application techniques and experience the heat loading when foam is applied on the short and long sides of the simulator. Various objects can be placed in the tray to obstruct the flow path of the foam and challenge firefighters in applying foam in the most efficient way.
9m-diameter low-lying storage tank
The 9m-diameter low-lying storage tank is specially designed for studying and demonstrating various aspects of foam behaviour. The round surface of the tank allows us to observe in detail how the extinguishing foam spreads and behaves under various conditions and this tank provides a unique opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of different foams and application techniques.
9m-diameter high storage tank
The 9m-diameter high storage tank is engineered specifically as a rim seal and a full surface tank fire simulator. It provides a comprehensive platform for studying and demonstrating foam behaviour in tank-fire scenarios. This facility supports a range of training, from fundamental practices to advanced firefighting techniques. Participants gain hands-on experience in applying foam effectively, mastering various strategies and techniques in a realistic setting.
120m²
The tank bund fire simulator covers an area of 120m² and comprises three interconnected bins, each measuring 40m², surrounding a high storage tank. This setup is meticulously designed to replicate bund fires, providing a controlled environment to study and demonstrate foam behaviour in detail. The simulator supports the use of various specialized materials, enabling comprehensive training on a range of bund fire scenarios.
Foam laboratory
To enhance understanding and visualize the application of firefighting foam and its impact on flammable liquids, we conduct small-scale demonstrations. These demonstrations in the foam laboratory allow us to effectively showcase the properties and effects of firefighting foam before implementing them on a larger scale.
Tank table
Increase awareness on the fixed and mobile firefighting systems available in tank and bund firefighting in a visual small scale demonstration model. The tactics and techniques can be explained in a small-scale format before the optional larger-scale scenarios are undertaken. The table will give a better understanding without unnecessary environment costs.
The tank table workshop consists of two tables and a number of separate simulations as described below:
- Table 1 consists of 2 x 60cm diameter tank, 90cm diameter tank, floating roof tank.
- Table 2 consists of 6 tanks in a bund.
- Boil, froth and slop-over simulations.
- Sub-surface simulation.
The versatility of the Foam Campus makes it an invaluable resource for foam suppliers to explore a wide range of foam-related challenges. Additionally, it provides end users with the opportunity to enhance their preparedness for both liquid pool and full surface tank fires.
