Strabag, the largest construction company in Austria and a key player in the European construction sector, successfully obtained the preliminary works contract for the first phase of Sultan Haitham City, an ambitious project situated in the capital city of Muscat, Oman. This expansive development, covering almost 15 million square meters, is poised to include 20,000 residential units and a variety of contemporary lifestyle amenities, all set amidst a vast 2.9 million square meters of green spaces.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning granted the contract to Strabag’s Omani unit, with a valuation of USD 18.1 million (RO 7 million). The initial stage of infrastructure preparation has commenced, with plans to persist for the next three months, covering an expansive area exceeding 6 million square meters.
The development entails creating essential road infrastructure, implementing a rainwater drainage system along the valley, and enhancing the surroundings of the central park in Sultan Haitham City. Central tasks include flattening the rainwater course (wadi) to form a 1.6 million-square-meter central park and addressing diverse components across a total area of 35 kilometers.
Upon completion, Sultan Haitham City, organized into 19 neighborhoods, is set to accommodate nearly 100,000 residents. The city will feature 23 mosques, including a grand mosque, 11 health facilities (2 for 20,000 patients and 6 for 10,000 patients), a referral hospital with 1,200 beds, a private hospital, and a center for individuals with disabilities and the elderly. Emphasizing sustainable urban planning aligned with Oman Vision 2040, the city will prioritize sustainable systems, renewable energy, efficient transport, green spaces, and strategic amenities for an enhanced quality of life.
