On behalf of Major General Expert Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, Director General of Dubai Civil Defence, Brigadier Rashid Khalifa Al Buflasa, Assistant Director General for Fire and Rescue Affairs and Colonel Expert Ali Hassan Almutawa, Assistant Director General for Smart Services recently received a high ranking delegation from Jordan Civil Defence.
The delegation was headed by Lt. Colonel Engineer Ayman Abdullah Al Maani, Director of Jordan Civil Defence Planning and Organization Department and Studies, Research and Development Department. The visit aimed to review the best practices implemented by Dubai Civil Defence (DCD).
Brigader Rashid briefed the visiting Jordan delegation on DCD main tasks, and its strategic plan set to achieve safety not only for the present, but reshaping the future as well. Colonel Expert Ali also illustrated in detail the nature of Dubai’s 24×7 Smart Buildings monitoring system, and its remarkable results seen in reducing the size and number of fire incidents that threaten life safety.
There followed a full demonstration of the DCD electronic central operations room and special operating procedures. This was delivered by Lt. Colonel Expert Feras Belhassa, Director of the DCD Central Operations Room. Lt. Colonel Expert Abdull Rahman Balshalat, Director of DCD Communications Department also briefed the Jordan delegation on the latest communications technologies implemented at DCD.
During its field tour at the Preventive Safety Department, the Jordan delegation listened to a short brief delivered by Captain Khalid Altunaji, Deputy Department Director on the department’s tasks and its developmental role to enhance safety across the Emirate of Dubai.
Three New Fire Stations for Dubai
As part of plans to protect the growing population of Dubai, in 2018 currently estimated at 3.1 million, Dubai Civil Defence have recently commissioned three new fire stations in the Emirate.
The stations are located at Nad Al Sheba, Al Mizhar and Jebel Ali, and are part of an ongoing development plan commissioned by the Dubai Municipality to increase the number of firefighters and raise the safety levels of the local communities. The three new Dubai Civil Defence fire stations brings the total in Dubai to 15. The total cost of these three new fire stations is AED 45 million ((£9.23 million). Each station incorporates offices and service areas on two floors, but key to the operational functions are the three appliance bays housing fire and water trucks, and rapid response vehicles. Elsewhere on each ground floor is a reception area, lounge, hall, gym, dining room, dormitory, office, and maintenance rooms with a warehouse.
On the first floor there is an office for the station manager, as well as other offices, a dining room, first-aid area and a meeting room. A central observation tower is sited above the first floor. External lighting and water heating system for the three stations are powered with solar energy.
Dubai Municipality commented that all green building and sustainable architecture standards had been adhered to in the design and build of the three fire stations, emphasising that Dubai is becoming a dominant force in the fields of recycling and sustainable construction.
