The Thermarestor team have been very busy during the latter months of 2017, both across the UK and internationally as the unique value of Thermarestor’s alerts to an impending electrical fire become more widely appreciated and installed.
Whilst in Dubai exhibiting at the Intersec trade show in January 2017, Thermarestor was installed to monitor the fixed wiring installations at Emirates Fire Fighting Equipment Factory (FIREX), in Sharjah, UAE. Using a stand-alone alarm system and utilising wireless connections throughout the factory the site was divided into 4 alarm zones.
On Sunday, 24th September 2017, notification was received within the UK that the alarm system within the Sharjah factory had experienced an incident. An email confirmation was received that Thermarestor covering Zone 1 of the local factory alarm had activated after detecting some early scorching in cabling, and that local electrical technicians were now dealing with the activation and making a repair to the fixed wiring installation.
There is no doubt that this incident once again demonstrated Thermarestor’s unique ability to alert to a very early warning of a fire of electrical origin. On this occasion, Themarestor almost certainly saved the factory complex from a catastrophic conflagration.
More recently, Thermarestor has also been installed in a section of the Dubai Mall. This is the world’s largest shopping mall with more than 750,000 visitors a week, and the complex is adjacent to the Burj Khalifa, at 828 metres the world’s tallest building.
In the United Kingdom, electrical fire safety in domestic white goods remains a highly topical concern. It is a salient fact that the disastrous and tragic fire in London’s Grenfell Tower in June 2017 originated in a kitchen freezer, whilst in the UK alone there are estimated to be some 2 million kitchen appliances that are still subject to an ongoing manufacturer’s recall due to the risk of fire.
Following another white goods fatal fire, this time in a dwelling in the North Wales region of the UK attributed to a electrical fault in a tumble dryer, the subject has been raised in the UK Parliament several times and received wide coverage in national and local media. Unsurpisingly, Thermarestor’s office continues to take a number of enquiries for its product, and are currently in discussion with representatives of a number of major projects and national heritage sites, and supporting fire and safety associations in various sectors. In addition, Thermarestor is currently working with a UK based manufacturer of a range of domestic white goods to provide enhanced electrical fire safety.
Thermarestor has also been busy on the exhibition front in recent times, with the team being present at the UK Emergency Services Show at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre in September 2017 and exhibiting at the Infra Oman event in Muscat in October 2017. This was followed by a visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia following expressions of interest there.
2017 has clearly demonstrated a growing momentum in Themarestor’s unique ability to provide very early warning of an impending fire caused by overheating wiring, a fault in electrical components, or a misuse of a power supply.
Whether a major turnkey project, commercial development or undertaking, a historic heritage site, hospital and other occupancy with a high life risk, right down to domestic dwellings, all can be protected by Thermarestor’s early alert of a likely outbreak of an electrical fire.
