The British Firefighter Challenge (BFC) 2017 is ‘a competition organised by Firefighters, for Firefighters’. Taking place at De Montfort University in Leicester on Saturday 29th July 2017, with hosts Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service providing support…
.Raising money for the Firefighters Charity, the BFC is an annual Firefighter-specific fitness competition open only to operational Firefighters around the World. A three to six minute event that tests a Firefighters strength and endurance; climbing six flights of stairs, hauling equipment aloft, using forcible entry techniques, completing a 60m hose drag, 25m hose make up, 40kg equipment carry and performing a 70kg casualty rescue!
“Our team has enjoyed successfully run competitions such as Firefighter Combat Challenge, Toughest Firefighter Alive, World Police and Fire Games and EurOPA challenge in Europe, Australia, UAE and USA, and our aim was to bring a similar competition to Britain, raise awareness for Health, Fitness and Fire Safety in our communities and raise monies for the Firefighters Charity” – John Gregory (British Firefighter Challenge Team)
In addition to promoting health and fitness, we deliver Fire Safety education to the local community inviting the Fire & Rescue Service from our host county to provide advice and information for all ages on Fire Safety, Road Safety and Celebrating Safely campaigns.
The BFC also invite local sports teams and community businesses to help support the event with entertainment. This year we have a Heritage Centre taking our competitors and guests through the history of Leicester and our beloved Fire Service, we have Everards Brewery providing a bar serving the finest ale in Leicester and we have inflatables for the children. It is a full day out for the whole family!
