China is hit by Lekima after the super typhoon, the ninth typhoon for the year, causes significant damage in Japan and Taiwan. In China 33 people have been killed. On Friday, Typhoon Lekima battered southern Japan and Taiwan, killing one Taipei resident, with strong winds and heavy rains disrupting transport in the region.
Authorities in China were pre-emptively cancelling Saturday train services in Zhejiang, Shanghai and elsewhere, according to the CMA’s newspaper. They also issued a yellow alert for torrential rain and flooding for provinces in Lekima’s path. Some airlines have cancelled Saturday flights out of Shanghai as a precaution.
In Taiwan damaged power poles left more than 60,000 households without electricity late on Thursday, with 9000 still waiting for power to be restored.

Typhoon Lekima triggered landslides and floods after making landfall in Zhejiang early on Saturday, about 300 kilometres south of Shanghai.
Lekima, which has been downgraded to a tropical storm, is expected to dump heavy rain on China’s northeast in the coming days as it moves up the Pacific coast.
It also forced the closure of Shanghai Disneyland on Saturday.
