Four demolition workers were buried under 30ft of steel when the 10 storey boiler house at Didcot Power Station in Oxfordshire, UK, suddenly collapsed on 23rd February 2016
The body of Mick Collings, 53, from Cleveland, was recovered shortly after the accident. Sadly, other workers including Ken Cresswell, 57, and John Shaw, 61, both from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, together with Christopher Huxtable, 34, have been missing since the power station partially collapsed.
Since the accident, Urban Search and Rescue teams been continually faced with highly dangerous conditions but on 31st August after much prolonged and painstaking work, another body, that of Mr. Huxtable, was located and recovered from under the tons of compacted steelwork and debris
A Guard of Honour was formed of firefighters from Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue Service along with police and ambulance colleagues as the deceased’s body was taken from the site by a hearse.
