The National Chemical Emergency Centre (NCEC) training experts, Hazmat Academy, provides operational and tactical incident response support to emergency services and organisations throughout the chemical supply chain that need an immediate response to a site-level incident. We do this via our team of highly qualified and experienced emergency responders and chemical-safety specialists.
Hazmat incidents risk immediate harm to people or the environment and could significantly impact an organisation’s assets and reputation. Our team of global chemical experts, qualified hazmat advisors and experienced incident commanders provides policy support and operational training to our customers. We provide our trainees with the operational, tactical and strategic response skills needed to better respond to such incidents. The type of support that we offer to emergency services includes:
- Accredited Hazardous Materials training in line with National Operational Guidance across HMFR, HMI and HMA qualifications
- Detection, Identification and Monitoring Assessments and support
- Specialist training on hydrogen and alternative fuels safety and response
- Continuous Professional Development across a programme of hazmat learning modules.
The underlying principle behind all our support is to build plans, processes and teams in a safe and controlled environment, so that those involved in any incident know and understand where and how they can act when the risk and hazards will be significantly higher. This principle will be the foundation of the content and support provided throughout our courses. All our courses align with health-and-safety legislation and industry best practice and can be delivered in-person at world-class facilities and via a blended remote-learning approach. Each training package balances the technical requirements of the subject matter with the tactical understanding of how this will be put into practice operationally. We are also able to offer organisations bespoke training to meet specific standards and/or emergency response needs.
NCEC are already well known by UK FRS through our 24/7 level 1 telephone emergency response support to them via the Chemsafe scheme and our chemical hazard database (Chemdata). Our team has 150 years of combined experience as qualified operational and tactical incident commanders and hazmat advisors. Each member of our team is qualified in education, training and assessing in the work environment. This means our trainees not only get support and training from global leading incident response professionals but also from adult learning experts.
Our partnership with Capita’s Fire Service College means that we can offer our subject-matter expertise to support their hazmat courses in the UK and make use of their excellent facilities for our in-person hazardous materials and emergency-response courses. Our courses are accredited by the International Organisation for Industrial Emergency Services Management (JOIFF) and we support their members with training to assist them in planning and implementing a safe and effective response to incidents.
